For most people, the past three years have been a rollercoaster. And the same has been true for us. After a short four months of manufacturing in our new facility in Waterfall, KZN, we were hit with the Covid pandemic, followed by the looting and then the flooding that hit as well.
But, you know what they say, when the going gets tough, the tough get going. And that we did!
With borders closed and travel restrictions in place, the Covid pandemic presented a unique opportunity for us, both in South Africa and abroad, as people suddenly found themselves unable to travel internationally and turned to camping to explore their own countries instead. Offering unparalleled affordability and flexibility, the Vagabond Teardrop Caravan made it easier than ever for people to get out and about without the need for 4x4 vehicles, complicated licenses, or accessories.
This surge in demand saw us ship the first batch of campers to the United States of America and not long after that, to Australia, the United Kingdom, and New Zealand as well, with talks underway to increase our international footprint even further. Australia in particular has proven to be an amazing market for us and we have grown from strength to strength down under with further increased volumes predicted. This has been an incredibly proud moment for us as we’ve been able to fly the South African flag high in these overseas markets while still taking care of our own local market. Altogether, this demand has seen us grow by over 300%!
There's no slowing down on this journey!
With our production facility bursting at the seams and forecasted sales, both locally and internationally, set to grow exponentially, we had to make some decisions to ensure the business was geared to meet demand. So three years after being acquired by EvoFibre, we have now joined forces with Pro-Fibre, one of South Africa’s premium caravan manufacturers, doing big things in the world of both off-road and on-road caravans.
With their hands-on approach, family values, and world-class facilities in Pinetown and Johannesburg, this partnership promises continued product development while offering much-needed space and capacity to meet market requirements and grow the Vagabond brand both in South Africa and overseas. As we ramp up production and expand our international footprint, 2023 promises to be a massive year for Vagabond. So watch this space for upcoming developments and exciting new offerings that we’re sure you’re going to love!
